Without a doubt, weddings can be expensive. There are so many items in your wedding budget, that it’s perfectly normal to look for ways to cut down on some costs. While skipping engagement photos reduces costs, an engagement session is a worthwhile experience for any couple.
I know; I’m a photographer, so I’m a little biased. But celebrating your engagement with a professional portrait session is worth it. Here are some reasons to consider doing an engagement session.
You get to know your photographer
Establishing a relationship with your photographer (me!) before your wedding is key to getting the photos you want from your big day. Not only will you feel more comfortable with someone you know and have interacted with behind the camera, but I will have a better understanding of your relationship and personalities.
Get comfortable in front of the camera
Chances are, you’re not used to having your photo taken. Most of us aren’t, including me! That’s why an engagement session is so important. It gives you a chance to get used to being in front of the camera and more comfortable with romantic poses and candid photos.
Personalize your session
Add meaning to your session by taking photos at a location that is important to the two of you, such as where you had your first date, where you met, or somewhere you enjoy spending time together. The more meaning you add to your engagement session, the more special your photos will feel.
See yourself in photos before your wedding day
Another benefit of an engagement session is the opportunity to see yourself in images before your wedding day. You may realize there is a particular angle or pose you don’t care for, and you can let me know to avoid those while taking your wedding photos. Seeing yourself in beautiful images can also give you more confidence to step in front of the camera on your wedding day.
Have gorgeous photos to use
There are so many ways you can use your engagement photos. You can use your images for save-the-date cards, your wedding website, gifts for your family, a personalized photo guest book, or in your wedding décor! It’s also nice to have beautiful portraits of yourselves in everyday clothing.
An engagement session may be an additional item in your wedding budget—and something else to add to your to-do list—but it’s worth it! Spending time with your photographer can help you feel more ready for your big day, ensuring you get beautiful engagement photos and wedding photos that you’ll love!
