I’m so excited to share Kaitlin and Stephanie’s vow renewal, which was featured on Rock ‘n Roll Bride earlier this year!
Kaitlin and Stephanie eloped in Paris and were married in front of the Eiffel Tower by officiant Michelle Wahila of Ruffled by Grace. Years later in 2019, they decided to renew their vows here in the United States, and Michelle flew over to perform and organize most of the vow renewal.
Their vow renewal took place at the historic Belva Lockwood Inn in Owego, NY, and they included old family photos and items from Paris in their ceremony as part of the decor. A roaring ‘20s theme with Parisian accents made for a beautiful and unique vow renewal. They also hired a Model T car and enjoyed autumn treats like candy apples, cider doughnuts, and cinnamon flavored cider mocktails for their intimate reception. They already owned their dresses, they wore their wedding shoes from Paris, and they added in a few 1920s themed accessories and lush bouquets to complete their looks.
The ceremony was informal, but emotionally moving. Kaitlin and Stephanie updated their original vows to reflect where they are currently in their lives. According to the couple, “It was important for us to read our ‘amended vows’ with Michelle. In our original vows we had left out the tradition vows of ‘for richer and poorer and in sickness and in health.’ We joked that in our first few years of marriage that those vows are there for a reason. So it was really cathartic and heartwarming to get to add them in. Also, Michelle prayed over us and our baby. There were hugs and selfies at the end.”
